Gentleman Broncos, the latest film from Salt Lake City native Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre), is still without a release date, but is growing in the public consciousness through a series of viral videos. The videos take the guise of promotional materials for one Dr. Ronald Chevalier (Flight of the Conchords Jemaine Clement), acclaimed author of all ten Cyborg Harpies chronicles, and self-proclaimed guru.
In The Art of Relaxating, Chevalier shares his unique methods for relieving stress caused by the creative process. Such pearls of wisdom as “Grasp your ankles, and bring them close to your groinal axis… as close as possible without damaging your seed” are sure to be on the lips of every teenage boy next summer, continuing the Hess tradition of infinitely quotable scripts.
Gentleman Broncos follows the story of a young, home-schooled novelist (played by Michael Angarano) who has his novel pilfered by Chevalier, and then made into a disastrous film by a talent-less local filmmaker.
The film is expected to premiere at next year's Sundance Film Festival, where Hess first made a splash with Napoleon Dynamite. He has once again partnered with distributor Fox Searchlight, who were behind the success of both Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre.
Gentleman Broncos was filmed in Salt Lake City over the summer of 2007.
